In Honor of Cesarean Awareness Month Meet Memphis | A Sweet Little Who Made His Appearance Via Emergency C-Section
April is Cesarean Awareness Month and in honor of that Jeri Hoag Photography wanted to highlight two of its recent clients, Memphis and his mother Rachel. At 39 weeks Rachel went into the hospital to be induced as a result of her son’s growth. The doctor has been concerned for some time about his smaller size and felt that it was time to deliver the baby and hopefully work towards catching him up in size. The date was February 18th and mom was already 2 centimeters dilated upon her arrival at the hospital in the morning. She spent the day taking Cyotec and other labor inducing medications with no success.
At this point the doctor decided it would be in mother and baby’s best interest to break her water. At 12:30 a.m. on February 19th, Rachel agreed to having her water broken and approximately thirty minutes afterwards, felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. Chalking it up to a kick from baby Memphis, she thought little of it until her doctor came in to check her progress at 1 a.m. The doctor examined Rachel and ordered an ultrasound. Something just didn’t seem right. The ultrasound revealed that Memphis had turned himself over and was now facing bottom first. Delivering him as such increased the chances of complications, especially since Rachel’s water had already been broken. It was determined that Memphis needed to be delivered via emergency C-section immediately.
One of Rachel’s biggest concerns that she had faced during her pregnancy was being realized. Thankfully; however, Memphis Duane was born healthy and well at 1:14 a.m. on February 19th. He weighed 7 pounds and three ounces and measured twenty inches long. Regarding Memphis and her two other sons Rachel said, “So even with all the fears of his growth through my pregnancy, he was almost my largest baby!”
The stress of the emergency C-section weighed heavily on Rachel emotionally and physically, and she slept for hours after Memphis was born. However, her doctors and nurses went above and beyond. They were reassuring and supportive through the entire labor, delivery, and recovery process.
Rachel delivered her first two sons vaginally and so, had no idea what to expect the day after her cesarean. In light of her recovery she said, “… the first day was so hard. I was given pain medication ever few hours, but I was still in a lot of pain. Getting out of bed seemed like an impossible task, but thankfully I had my husband by my side. I remember loving the fact that Memphis’s head was perfectly shaped since he didn’t have to travel down the birth canal! I didn’t feel the need to always have a hat on him …”
Mom says that that sweet Memphis must have gotten his need for trouble making out of the way during his delivery because he has been the easiest baby ever since. Congratulations to mom, dad, and big brothers. We at JHP are beyond thrilled to join you in welcoming the arrival of your sweet newborn son, Memphis.
