“Carlos then decided to message me. Now a days they call it sliding into DMs.”
Mom, Marisa and dad, Carlos met through Instagram. Marisa first liked one of Carlos’ pictures on the popular social media site. Shortly after, he returned the favor and liked one of her pictures. From there they each took turns liking all of the other’s photos. Carlos messaged Marisa, or “slid into her DMs.” Through messaging back and forth Marisa learned that Carlos was originally from Ligonier, Indiana but was stationed in North Carolina with the Marine Corps.
Through further conversation, Marisa and Carlos decided to meet in person while he was home on leave for the Fourth of July. In reference to meeting Carlos Marisa said, “Mind you I was going to meet a complete stranger not knowing if I was going to get catfished or possibly get kidnapped.”
Upon arriving to the movie theater which was to be the location of their first date, Marisa saw Carlos park his car and realized that he was in fact, the man she had been speaking to. She hadn’t been catfished! Unfortunately; however, the movie theater was closed. They called another theater to see if it was open and once they learned that it was, Marisa took her car to her home in Elkhart. She then got in the car with Carlos and rode to the movies with him. They watched Ted 2 and then went to Steak and Shake for supper.
Marisa and Carlos continued to communicate through social media. On July 22, 2015 Carlos asked Marisa to be his girlfriend. She said “yes,” and then on July 17, 2016 Carlos proposed. The two were married on July 23, 2016.
After Marisa and Carlos learned they were pregnant they planned a gender reveal. Carlos shot a powder filled box which opened to reveal pink powder. Both of the parents-to-be were thrilled.
Marisa and Carlos chose to name their daughter Adrienne Josie. The two found the name Adrienne lovely and chose Josie as a middle name because they believe that the weekend Adrienne was conceived, was the weekend they were at a Julia Michaels concert in which Josie Dunne opened.
When Marisa held Adrienne for the first time she immediately fell in love. Marisa said, “It was the best moment of my life … I was in love with her intently.”
Adrienne Josie gets her looks from her dad. Mom says that baby girl looks nothing like her.
Fun fact: Adrienne slept through the night upon coming home as a newborn. Mom said that this made the transition to parenthood quite a bit easier.
